City to take over airport Feb. 15
The City of Trail is very pleased to be officially taking ownership of the Trail Regional Airport (YZZ) from the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) on Feb. 15.
After several months of negotiations and discussions on how to move forward, the city is now ready to start making the transition with the newly-acquired facility. In order to acknowledge the takeover, the city will be hosting a small celebratory event at the airport on Feb. 15 from 12 to 3 p.m.
Cake and coffee will be served to all patrons travelling via Trail’s Pacific Coastal flights that day, local media, airport staff and any members of the public who wish to attend. Members of Trail Council will also be onsite to answer any questions about the recent acquisition.
“The airport acquisition is a huge step forward for our entire region,” says Mayor Dieter Bogs. “Economic development for the area is one of our top priorities and we hope the public shares our enthusiasm and our vision to move ahead. We look forward to seeing and speaking to members of our community on the 15 at the airport.”
The city will continue to work on an articulated transition plan with the assistance of the RDKB over the next six months and a new Airport Manager will soon be selected from the list of 20 applicants.
