Alberta man suffers busted arm in avalanche near Sparwood

A backcountry skier suffered a broken arm after being pulled from an avalanche near Sparwood Sunday.
Search and Rescue in Sparwood and Elk Valley RCMP received the call around 3:30 p.m. that five backcountry skiers believed to be from Alberta triggered an avalanche near the oal Mountain Teck mine in the Corbin Road area.
The area is located approximately 24 kilometres east of the BC-Alberta border town.
Elk Valley RCMP said a 35-year-old man from Lethbridge was buried in the slide.
The rest of the group were able to find the skier and dig him out of the snow.
Snowmobilers took the man to an awaiting ambulance where he was transported to hospital in Fernie with non-life threatening injuries that included hypothermia and a broken arm.
The man is expected to make a full recovery.
