Despite plummeting temperatures, Grand Forks residents filled the downtown core to watch the annual Santa Claus parade, Dec. 6.

The parade had a few less floats than last year, but according to organizer Bud Alcock, the amount of people watching the crowds was huge.

Parade participants gathered at Selkirk college at 6:30 p.m. and were offered hot chocolate to keep warm as the organizers got everyone in line. The parade started at 7 p.m. and went down 72 Avenue, turned onto 2nd Street, came up Market Avenue and headed back to the Royal Canadian Legion.

As is tradition, the parade participants tossed candy to the onlookers as they marched by, and Santa called out to everyone from his float.

Citizens on Patrol won the award for best float for following the theme “A Crafter’s Christmas.” The City of Grand Forks came is second and the Boundary Girl Guides placed third.
