Five of Grand Forks Fire Rescue’s longest serving members were recognized at the City of Grand Fork’s regular council meeting last night.

Mayor Brian Taylor awarded Dean Gourlie and John Feenstra with the Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada. This award is given to members with 20 years of service. One of the requirements for the medal is that at least 10 of those years the members served in a position where they put themselves in potentially risky positions.

Lyle Dorner, Dean Bryant and Loren Dorner were also recognized with the British Columbia Long Service Medal for services of over 25 year.

“Thank you for the contribution you make as volunteers,” said Taylor. “We couldn’t do it in the city without you. It makes such a difference to have such a trusted force.”
