LIBRARY MUSINGS: Library book sale on this week

Grand Forks and District Public Library
By Grand Forks and District Public Library
October 22nd, 2013

There’s something for everyone happening at the library these days – we’ve got books of course, but also DVDs, knitting needles and wool, lego by the bin, busy November writers, and a very fabulous Friday.

Booksale

But first: it’s here, it’s finally here!  The Friends of the Library Booksale will start on Thursday, October 24 at 10 am, and end on October 26 at 3 pm. We have thousands of books – novels, cookbooks, westerns, mysteries, gardening, sci-fi and fantasy, history, and plenty for kids and teens too. All books are by donation.

Book club

The book club will be meeting on Wednesday, October 23 at Christina Lake (Living Arts Centre), and on Thursday, October 24 in Grand Forks. Come prepared for another lively discussion!

DVDs

A shipment of new DVDs has arrived – we’ve got the latest seasons of New Tricks, George Gently, Midsomer Murders, Inspector Lewis and all of our other regular series. But we’re also getting some brand-new series, including all seasons of Breaking Bad, Merlin, Modern Family.

Fabulous Fridays

Come to the library on Friday, November 1 from 1 – 3 pm for another of our wonderful Fabulous Fridays! Free fun for all ages, with refreshments provided. No registration required – just drop in anytime. We’ve got crafts, puppets, board games, chess, and our very popular XBox 360 Kinect.

Crocheting

Our knitting club is growing, and it will now be a knitting and crocheting club. We provide crochet hooks and wool (as well as knitting needles) – the rest is up to you!

Love books? Write one!

November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) – come to the library on Thursday afternoons in November from 1 – 3 pm and get some work done with fellow writers. Coffee and tea will be served.

Everybody loves…

…Lego! No, seriously, they do – we had our first Legoland this month and there were even more children than we had hoped for. What that means is that we need more Lego, so if you have any kicking around the basement please bring it on over. Our next Legoland will be on Friday, November 8, from 1 – 3 pm.

Computer Workshops

We’ve got a series of computer workshops happening in November, to teach you everything from basic beginner skills to photos, email, Google, and Facebook. If you’d like to register, space is limited, so call or visit us now to reserve a spot.
