Company responsible for fuel spill to provide water for impacted residents

The company responsible for a 33,000-litre fuel spill into Lemon Creek will be providing potable water for impacted residents, according to RDCK Emergency Operations Centre infromation officer Bill Macpherson.
“There are a lot of surface-source users out there who aren’t connected to any (water) services,” he said. “We were getting a lot of calls.”
Calgary-based Executive Flight Centre has contracted the delivery of water and is hoping to have tanks at the Crescent Valley and Winlaw fire halls later today.
“There are some logistical issues – it has to be delivered by a certified supplier,” he added. “But the hope is that they’ll have it in place at the two halls today.”
All surface source users on Lemon Creek, Slocan River and the Kootenay River above and below Brilliant Dam to the confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers at Castlegar are affected by a Do Not Use order.
Interior Health imposed the order following the spill in Lemon Creek and subsequent downstream fuel flow and contamination.
The advisory is also for people swimming in the Slocan River below Lemon Creek and into the Kootenay River.
