A gas leak forced the shutdown of a gas line on Kimberley Avenue in Greenwood, Sunday.

“A third-party was digging for a fence and they hit a line,” said FortisBC communications advisor Ruth Sulentich.

The gas leak happened around 3 p.m. and was repaired just after 5 p.m. The local fire department arrived quickly on scene.

“There was no immediate danger,” said Sulentich.

Only the one house was affected. Sulentich said that it is standard procedure to follow a gas leak with an investigation so they will know more about the incident at a later date.

It’s also a good reminder that people should call before they dig anywhere. The number for BC One Call is 1-800-474-6886 or *6886 on a cell phone.
