Hi Folks!

We’ve got some exciting new tools in our metaphorical toolbox, and I want to tell you about them. They are called online databases, and they can be accessed through our website (using your library card number) at grandforks.bclibrary.ca. One of them, Imagine Canada / Grant Connect, allows non-profit organizations and charities to find potential funders. Two other ones, Auto Repair Reference Centre and Small Engine Repair, can guide you through repairs to any vehicle manufactured in the last fifty years, including motorcycles, boats, ATVs, chainsaws, tractors, lawn mowers, and more! We’ve also got Consumer Health Complete, for accurate and reliable medical and health information; KnowBC for all things British Columbia; as well as a series of journal, magazine, and newspaper databases for all ages. You’ll find some of these tools on the home page of our website (just scroll down a bit), and the full list under the “information” tab. One thing to note:  some of these tools are only accessible from the computers at the library (our website lists which ones). And now, let’s get to our event’s calendar…

We’re Hiring!

Our Summer Reading Club is coming up, and we’re looking to hire a coordinator (age 16 to 30, June 11 to 30 at 30 hrs/week) and an assistant (age 16 to 30, July 2 – August 30 at 30 hrs/week). For more information and complete job descriptions, come to the library or visit our website at grandforks.bclibrary.ca.

Cultural Types

On Thursday, May 9 at 12:00 Sarah Orlowski, from Filbelly Forest, will be presenting an informative slideshow of her permaculture studies in Nicaragua.

And on Friday, May 10 at 12:00 Lorraine Dick will be presenting a Learn @ Lunch talk on Vermiculture – come and learn about worm composting!

Dad’s Storytime

We’ve got one Dad’s Storytime this month on Saturday, May 11.

They’re not just for Dads – anyone can come along!

Board Meeting

Ever wonder what a library board meeting is like?  Well here’s your chance to find out – we will now be holding our monthly meetings at 4 pm (on the third Wednesday of the month) at the library. Come to listen, ask questions, or just to satisfy your curiosity!

Fabulous Friday

We’ll be having another of our popular all ages Fabulous Friday events on Friday, May 17 from 1 to 3 pm – there will be snacks, chess, board games, crafts, and our excellent Xbox 360 Kinect.

Before I Go To Sleep…

…is the title of our May book club selection! It’s an internationally bestselling psychological thriller about a woman who wakes up every day with no knowledge of who she is. I haven’t read it yet – but I know lots of people who have found it to be unputdownable (yes, that’s a word!).

Happy Reading!
