Grand Forks businesses are invited to become family friendly with a little help from local organizations. On Friday, Feb. 8 at the Grand Forks Credit Union Boundary Success by 6 launched its ‘Family Friendly Business’ initiative.

On hand at the event to help with the launch Christine Thompson, Chair of the Phoenix Foundation of the Boundary, and Gary Smith, Grand Forks city councillor. Angela Soukoreff, Manager Marketing & Communications for the credit union, emceed the event.

What is the Family Friendly Business initiative?

It is a small set of amenities that show customers that a business is friendly to all members of the family not just the ones with paychecks. Parents with small children and seniors might find a chair in which they can rest for a moment would be a helpful thing.

If your business provides access to a washroom with a change table and a chair where mom can breast-feed then you might qualify for the window decal  – a sign to your customers you are friendly to families. Not everyone goes shopping with a vehicle to which they can retreat, and sometimes mother nature isn’t patient enough to wait until you’re home.

As more businesses in the community adopt this family friendly attitude our community is enriched along with our businesses and this is to all of our benefit. Later this year customers will be able to nominate and vote online for a family friendly business in each community across the boundary. Results of the that voting will be recognition and awards presented for those with the top number of votes at the annual small business week in October.
