LIBRARY MUSINGS: Call for volunteers!
Hi Grand Folks!
You might be just the person we’re looking for. Yes, you. Let me explain: we’re looking for enthusiastic community members who might want to join the library board of directors. Ideally, we’d like our board to be made up of a mix of women and men, of all ages (though the BC Library Act does require that you be 18 years and older).
Are you able to commit to either a one or a two-year term? Are you passionate about your public library? Do you live in Area C, Area D, or the City of Grand Forks? If you answered “yes” to all of the above, you might be just who we’re looking for.
We have board meetings once a month – each lasting an hour or so. The board’s primary function is the governance of the Grand Forks & District Public Library, including policies, finances, and all that good stuff. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, come by the library to pick up an application form, or find it on our website (http://grandforks.bclibrary.ca).
Happiness
We’ve got a very exciting event on Tuesday, Feb. 12at 6 pm. Roly Russell will be presenting on “The Economics of Happiness”, leading us in an exploration of the role we can play in sustaining our communities and ensuring their well-being. The talk is co-sponsored with Selkirk College as part of their Peace Cafe series. Refreshments will be served, and the event is by donation.
Workshop series
Come to the library on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 12:00 noon if you’d like to attend the Kelty Mental Health workshop on “Grief and Loss (for children and youth)”. Listen to a brief teleconference, then join our panel for an informative and practical discussion.
Learn @ Lunch
Sally Caisley will be back at the library on Friday, Feb. 15 at 12:00 noon to present on “Seniors – Dealing with Stress.” Refreshments will be served.
Happy Reading!
