Storm causes power outage in Christina Lake, parts of West Kootenays

UPDATE: Most customers back online after Fortis works to restore power
Most of the estimated thousands of FortisBC customers have their electrical services restored after fallen trees downed lines earlier this morning, said Tracy Tang, FortisBC spokesperson.
The early morning thunder storm coupled with high winds brought trees down on power lines, which caused the massive outage, she said.
Crews have been working tirelessly since the morning to get everyone’s power back.
The only ones left without power are a small group of customers on Crawford Creek Road in Crawford Bay, which will be out until early evening, said Tang.
Also those living in Paterson, a few spots in Creston and in Salmo will continue without power until late this afternoon, she said.

Christina Lake is one of more than half a dozen communities who woke up in the dark this morning, Tuesday, Oct. 16.
According to Fortis spokesperson Tracy Tang, there have been “several substations impacted by the storm conditions.” Salmo, Fruitvale, Waneta, Crawford Bay and Rossland also affected.
Crews have been dispatched, but no plans or an estimated time for completion has been released yet.
