Owl Mountain fire contained across the border
A small half-acre fire burning on a remote ridge on Owl Mountain south of the Cascade border crossing is contained but not yet out, according to a spokesperson from the North East Washington Interagency Communications Centre in Colville, Washington.
Local residents travelling through the Cascade or American Laurier border crossing may have noticed the fire on their way to Colville or Spokane. It’s been burning since Tuesday, Sept. 11.
The spokesperson said the fire was caused by lightening and while it is small, it has been difficult to extinguish due to it’s location on a small bench cliff along the steep mountain side.
There have been, and continue to be, no threats to properties located in the area on either side of the border, she said.
