The second annual Grand Forks Best Singer auditions are finished, and the final singers are waiting to compete at the Grand Forks Secondary School Auditorium on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. to see who will be crowned the 2012 Grand Forks Best Singer!

An interesting development in the contest this year is that the winning singer will be singing the national anthems of Canada and the United States at the Grand Forks International welcoming ceremonies on Aug. 30!

Contest organizer and producer Vern Gorham is happy about this new development! Gorham contacted GFI tournament organizers back in May to see if it would be a good fit to have the Grand Forks Best Singer contest held before GFI to give visiting and local people one more great made in Grand Forks activity to check out before the first pitch is thrown, and the idea received a very positive response! That lead to having the winner sing the national anthems at the welcoming ceremonies which is a win-win situation for both groups.

Just like last year, the top two singers from the Grand Forks Best Singer Contest will advance on to the second annual Kootenays’ Best Singer Contest to be held in June of 2013, again in Cranbrook. Two of the top three singers from the first annual Grand Forks Best Singer Contest will be returning to try for the crown again this year, although first place finisher, Celilie Regenberg will not be competing as she has moved out of Grand Forks. In the first Grand Forks Best Singer contest, Cecilie narrowly out-pointed Nicole Del Aguila for top spot, with Gary Smith rounding out the top three.

The night promises to be a very entertaining night featuring some great local Boundary area talent! Tickets in advance are available at Animal Instinctz and are only $8 for children and seniors and $10 for adults. All tickets at the door are $10.
