High winds are to blame for the long power outage experienced in Christina Lake and Grand Forks yesterday.

A tree fell on the line, explained Neal Pobran, communications officer for FortisBC at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 5. Some local businesses were inconvenienced when machinery experienced power surges that led to equipment failures, and others were forced to close early.

“Power was restored to the city of Grand Forks at 4:45 p.m.,” Pobran said. “Power to customers at Christina Lake was restored at approximately midnight. There are a small number of customers, about 10 to 15, who are still without power. It is expected their power should be restored by noon.”

Additional work was done on Tuesday causing a further outage for some residents between noon and 3:00 p.m. in Christina Lake. At the time of publishing, all power has now been restored.
