Lights, camera action . . . movie Christmas Miracle starts filming in and around locations in Heritage City

The Heritage City is getting another taste of the motion picture industry as NGN productions began filming its latest project, Christmas Miracle, Sunday in and around the region.
“This is a Christmas movie about bunch of people who get stranded in a blizzard on Christmas Eve in a desolate part of the country a few miles outside of a small town,” Line and Executive Producer Tara Cowell-Plain told The Nelson Daily Sunday from the crew location in the parking lot of the Wholesale Club on the Nelson waterfront.
“The group is hold up in an abandon church all night and learn about the spirit of Christmas and coming together as a group,” Cowell-Plain adds.
“It’s a happy ending, good story movie.”
Christmas Miracle is a Canadian made film starring Manitoba born Allison Hossack and Country Western singer George Canyon.
“This is a story driven film versus a cast driven film, so there’s no major stars in the movie,” Cowell-Plain explained.
Christmas Miracle is scheduled to be in Nelson only for Sunday, shooting footage on the Big Orange Bridge, Baker Street and at the home of Mario Arcovio on the corner of Ward and Gore Streets.
The crew travels to Queen’s Bay for the remainder of the week filming in and around St Francis of the Woods church before heading back to the Lower Mainland.
“Nelson obviously is a beautiful town, but the main reason why we’re here is its got snow,” Cowell-Plain confessed.
“We started out looking for locations closer to Vancouver, but there’s no snow. We went to Pemberton and Whistler but couldn’t find the quaint-town feel there.
“We talked about Saskatchewan and Alberta but there were too many challenges. We thought about going up north (B.C.) but once again, too many challenges and Nelson just felt like a great place to come to film the movie.”
Cowell-Plain said the movie crew employees about 45 people from outside the area, plus extras, security and flag people from in and around Nelson.
Christmas Miracle is schedule to be released on DVD and is expected to be picked up by the country music channel in the United States and Shaw Cable and CTV in Canada.
“We really appreciate and are grateful to the people of Nelson,” said Cowell-Plain, praying for a major dump of snow to help with the scenery.
“This has been a spectacular experience for us and hopefully it is for the people here.”
Some of the other movies filmed in Nelson include the 1987 movie, Roxanne and Snow Falling on Cedars filmed in 1999.
