LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS: And they're off!

Candidates are declared for the upcoming local government elections with a selection of people running in every area. 

All candidates meetings will give everyone the opportunity to feel out the different nominees in the next month. In Grand Forks the all candidates meeting for council and mayors will take place Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the GFSS auditorium at 7:00 p.m. For area D candidates the meeting is in the same location, GFSS auditorium, on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7:15 p.m.  And the contenders are:  Grand Forks Mayor:  Brian Taylor, incumbent; Christine Thompson; and Ann Gordon  Grand Forks Council (6 seats):  Cher Wyers (incumbent); Joy Davies (incumbent); Michael Wirischagin (incumbent); Everett Baker; Jocelyn Cowie; Lorraine Dick; Zak Eburne-Stoodley; Bob Kendel; Neil Krog; Patrick O’Doherty; Bob Smith and Gary Smith  Greenwood Mayor:  Jim Nathorst; and Nipper Kettle  Greenwood Council (4 seats):  Angie Phelps (incumbent); Christopher Stevenson (incumbent); Darla Ashton; Lee Cudworth; Chris Fieber; Ray Harrison; Colleen Lang; Faye Tarashita; Barry Noll  Midway Mayor: Randy Kappes by acclamation Midway Councillors (4 seats): Dunsdon, Dick (incumbent); Rotvold, Marguerite (incumbent); Lehmann, Earl; Schierbeck, Gary (incumbent); Robinson, Chris; Fromme, Martin (incumbent); Booth, Evelyn; Coburn, John; Metcalf, Darrin  Area C:  Grace McGregor (incumbent) wins by acclamation.  Area D:   Irene Perepolkin (incumbent); Brian Johnson; Dave Johnson; Ken Johnston; and Teresa Taylor  Area E:  Bill Baird (incumbent); and Christopher Stevenson  School District 51 Trustees:  Christina Lake (Area C): Sally Garcelon (incumbent); and Cindy Strukoff  Grand Forks (two seats): Teresa Rezansoff (incumbent); Ken Harshenin (incumbent); and David Grootjes  Grand Forks Rural (Area D): John Malloff (incumbent); and David Reid  Kettle Valley East: Cathy Riddle (incumbent); and Deborah Baker  Kettle Valley West: Vicki Gee (incumbent) – acclaimed.  Kettle Valley North: Rose Zitko – acclaimed.
