Ice coaching staff select 12 players after training camp for BCMMHL squad
Cole Arcuri of Nelson and Scott Davidson and Jake Lucchini of Trail head the list of players following training camp for the Kootenay Ice Major Midget squad this past weekend at the NDCC Arena in Nelson.
Arcuri, a defenceman, is a rookie on the Major Midget squad.
He’s joined by Davidson and Lucchini, both returning for their second season.
The team is coached by Mario DiBella and assistant Sean Dooley.
Last year DiBella skippered the Kootenay Wildcats Female team while Dooley was an assistant with the Nelson Leafs of the KIJHL.
Other players committed to the program include Seth Schmidt and Jason Richter of Cranbrook, Quinn Klimchuk and Darren Medeiros of Castlegar, Colby Livingstone of Creston, Mitch Foyle of Beaver Valley, Jeremy McGregor of Grand Forks and Craig Martin of Trail.
Jordan Davie of Kaslo declined an invitation to the team.
More than 50 players attended the three-day camp.
Thirty-three players remain in camp including Nelsonites Brandon Sookro, Colton Dawson and defenceman Tyler Podgorenko.
The Ice is part of the 11-team B.C. Major Midget Hockey League for players 15, 16 and 17 year old.
In 2010-11 the Kootenay Ice finished 10th overall with an 8-25-7 record.
Some of last year’s team, including Dryden Hunt of Nelson and Luke Bertolucci of Trail, used seasoning in the BCMMHL to garner potential spots on Tier II Junior A rosters in the B.C. Hockey League.
Hunt is off to the camp of the Westside Warriors later this month.
