Don’t miss out on this evening of classic blues as the Grand Forks Art Gallery hosts Chris Whiteley and Diana Braithwaite.

Braithwaite and Whiteley have toured internationally including shows in the United Kingdom, North America, and Russia. Blues Revue Magazine has called Diana Braithwaite and Chris Whiteley “Masters of Old School Blues”.

As a Black female blues artist, Braithwaite, who has been instrumental in keeping the blues alive on a national and international level, was recently heard in February on CBC radio doing weekly Black History segments.

A gifted and captivating performer, Diana Braithwaite’s authentic blues shows have led her into the company of such stalwarts as Mel Brown, Albert Collins, and John Lee Hooker. Appearances at shows in Massey Hall in North America, concert halls and festivals in the U.K. and Europe led to her reputation as a world class blues singer.

Kansas born multi-instrumentalist, Chris Whiteley, appeared on Saturday Night Live and toured and recorded with Blind John Davis, SonnyLand Slim and Leon Redbone. A featured performer at the Chicago Blues Festival, Whiteley tours regularly with Stuart McLean’s Vinyl Café on CBC.

The Classic Blues Show presented by Braithwaite and Whiteley on tour includes songs performed live on BBC’s Paul Jones Show in England, and was toured successfully twice by the duo in arts centers and concert halls throughout the UK, and Russia.

Eight time Maple Blues Award Winners , in January 2010, they were awarded songwriters of the year at the Maple Blues Awards. In January 2011, their latest album Deltaphonic released by Electro-Fi Records hit number one on B.B. Kings Bluesville network on XM satellite radio , with over 18 million listeners across the United States and internationally.

Later this year, Braithwaite and Whiteley will be featured performers at two major summer festivals: the R&B Colne Festival in Colne, England and the Monaghan Festival in Ireland, and the duo was recently confirmed to perform at the prestigious Hudson River Park Blues Festival in New York City August.
