Four Grand Forks high school students have qualified to represent Grand Forks Secondary School (GFSS) at the British Columbia School Sports (BCSS) Provincial Swimming Championships to be held in Nanaimo, B.C., later on this month.   David Hecht, Ross Merry, Jade Milaney, and Hannah Holitzski all qualified for the event following their performances at the BCSS Regional Kootenay Championships held this past weekend in Nelson, BC.   While all qualified, only two are confirmed to be attending the meet on the Vancouver Island, to be held on Nov. 19 and 20.   “I know Ross and David are going for sure, but I am not too sure if Jade is. Hannah can’t because volleyball playoffs are the same weekend,” said Jamie McKaig, athletic director at GFSS.   Results were:   On the boy’s side Hecht finished tied for third with Merry in the 100-metre freestyle with a time of 1-minute 9-seconds and 30-tenths-of a second (1:09:30), placed sixth in the 50-metre freestyle (00:30:90), third in the 50-metre breaststroke, and fifth in the 50-meter butterfly (00:39:00).   Along with Merry’s third place finish in the 100-meter freestyle, he also placed second in the 50-meter freestyle (00:28:40), tied for first in the 50-meter breastroke (00:38:70), and second in the 50-meter butterfly (00:31:60).   On the girl’s side, Milaney finished sixth in the 50-meter freestyle (0:35:50), seventh in the 50-meter breastroke (00:46:50), and fifth in the same event (00:45:40) later on in the championships. She also placed eleventh in the 100-meter individual medley (1:38:90).   Holitzski finished first in 50-meter basckstroke (00:35:10), first in the 50-meter butterfly (00:34:10), fourth in the 50-meter breastroke (00:44:70), and third in the 100-meter individual medley (1:21:00).
