Storytime at Kocomo's coming soon
Becoming a grandmother has certainly put a delightful spin on Susan Klarner’s life. One outcome is Story Time at Kocomo’s, a free event being launched on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11:30 a.m. featuring storyteller JJ Henderson.
Kids get to sit on the Story Time mat in the “Chocolate Room” at the back of the coffee shop and have hot chocolate, while mums and dads get to visit.
“Being a nana now has given me a different perspective,” says Klarner. Klarner’s son and business partner, Thomas Lockwood, helped her develop the idea that came from time spent with his children and Susan.
“We were just talking and doing a drawing of a little Kocomo bird,” continues Klarner, who is also an artist, “and the idea continued from there. We put it out to several storytellers in the area who expressed interest. There will be a different storyteller each week. It is our hope to involve different nationalities to tell of different kinds of experiences, such as First Nations.”
Future storytellers include Lizanne Eastwood, Elizabeth Martin, Ted Invictus, Rosemary Phillips and others. The little Kocomo bird drawing has now become the Story Time logo and is featured on t-shirts.
Story Time at Kocomo’s will take place every Saturday at 11:30 a.m. featuring a different storyteller at each event. Location: Kocomo’s Coffee Shop, Grand Forks.
