Local equestrians wrap up solid season
Three local equestrians have hung their tack up for the winter following a very successful run in events across the province. Shawna Fojt, Mandy Nielsen and Barb Nielsen recently finished strong with an impressive showing at the Island 22 3-day event in Chilliwack B.C.
The ladies, who run under the moniker Team Griffin, all finished with ribbons as Mandy came in fourth place, Fojt came in third and Barb placed second and third in two separate divisions on different horses. One of those horses was a statuesque Trekhener Stallion, Platinum von Rappenhof that Nielsen spent the season riding for Rappenhof Trakehner Breeding Stallions out of Osoyoos.
The horses’ owner and breeder, Connie Kempter was excited about the progress of the stallion.
“Now Platinum is qualified to go Training next season. Hopefully he could also do some show jumping, including at the famous ten ring Thunderbird show ground in Langley.” said Kempter.
Fojt is a welcome addition to the team this season after returning to the area and joining forces with the sister-led team. The season featured numerous top ten placings for each of the riders, but the growth of the new horses was a special memory for the team.
“They’re all young horses that we have brought up and trained, so it’s very satisfying to see them develop and grow with us,” said Barb. Each of the team members credit their competition chaperone Bill Griff, for whom the team is named, for making the grueling season possible.
