Nelson Boxing Club is hosting another Fight Night Saturday at the Nelson Rod and Gun Club.

Jesse Pineiro of the Nelson Boxing Club said there are 10 bouts on the card, with fighters coming from Cranbrook, Calgary, Revelstoke, Kelowna, Victoria and host Nelson.

The Grand Forks Border Bruins improved their record to two wins and four losses by beating the Beaver Valley Nitehawks last Friday night since trading away Brent Lucente to the Peninsula Panthers of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League. However, the Bruins were unable to climb closer to the .500 mark in the post-Lucente era, losing on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Bruins weekend play started with a bang Friday night as the Bruins welcomed the ‘Hawks to the Grand Forks Arena. Grand Forks put themselves on the board early scoring on their first two shots.

As part of an ongoing effort to lure international teams to Rossland for their pre-Olympic training, the Alpine City played the part of international host this week. A delegation for the Russian biathlon team, making a fast venue tour of potential pre-Olympic biathlon training sites, made a quick stopover in Rossland on Wednesday. The delegation included the head coach of the Russian men’s and women’s team, who was an Olympic medalist in the 1980s himself, and the communications director for the team.

On Saturday night, approximately 170 Rosslanders partied for a good cause at the "Celebration for George Grey" event at Red Resort. See the gallery of this event, kindly provided by Dave Cornelius.

"We raised about $8000 during the silent and live auctions for George," noted event organizer Susan van Asselt.  Donations to a fund for Grey were made by the Nelson and District Credit Union, Ferraro Foods, Gerick's Cycle, and the Black Jack ski club.
