Most of the Social Media platforms lit up Monday night when a giant fireball passed over the Pacific Northwest.

There was just a big sparky flash that lit up the sky in a flame right above my home just now,” said Steve Archdekin on Facebook.

“Pretty sweet. Wonder what it was.”

Kevin Skrepnek, chief fire information officer for B.C., tweeted “Well that was different: while sitting on a patio in Nelson, BC the entire sky lit up and the meteorite came down. Huge boom about 1m later.”

The American Meteor Society said more than 90 fireball reports in Canada and USA.

“The AMS has received over 90 reports so far about of a fireball event seen above the state of British Columbia (Canada) on September 4th, 2017 around 10:14 p.m. PDT (September 5th, 2017 ~ 05:14 Universal Time).

“The fireball was seen primarily from British Columbia but was also seen from Alberta and Saskatchewan as well as from Washington, Idaho and Montana. According to our latest estimated trajectory, the fireball traveled in a southeast to northwest direction entering the atmosphere near the small city of Boswell and terminating near Meadow Creek, British Columbia.”

Archdekin said the flame in the sky flashed over his house in Glade, between his house and the mountains right out the window.

RCMP in Kelowna said police received calls from Nelson, Okanagan Valley, Comox and as far away as Calgary.

YouTube Video is from B.C. Interior resident Jacquie McKay of Bridge Lake in the South Cariboo region who was lying in bed when she saw the sky light up outside, so she checked her security camera and posted the footage. The video had 16,265 views as of Tuesday morning.
