Grand Forks Rotary celebrates 100 years in BC

The Grand Forks Rotary club had a quiet celebration to honour the 100th anniversary of Rotary in BC this weekend.

On Saturday, Feb. 23 the group gathered at Gyro Park in Grand Forks with free cake and hot chocolate, and of course their famous salty sweet kettle corn.

Grand Forks Rotarian Jim Burch has completely embodied the organization’s motto, “Service Above Self”. He’s been a member of the Grand Forks club for 33 years.

“I just like giving back to the community,” said Burch, while stirring the big steel kettle filled with salty sweet popping corn. “It is a way to give back to a community that has been so good to us.”

And there is hardly a community function or community space that does not show the organization’s support in Grand Forks and throughout the Boundary region. The Grand Forks Rotary club has been working in our community since 1965.

The organization is celebrating this milestone in different ways across the province. One of the most notable events will be the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron in Vancouver on Friday, April 19.
