Grand Forks RCMP has successfully arrested four methamphetamine drug dealers across the Boundary region in the last month.
“The latest arrest was yesterday (Wednesday, Oct. 20) and it was a man from Greenwood who was active selling meth in our community,” reported Staff Sergeant Jim Harrison of the Grand Forks detachment. “He was arrested and pled guilty to possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.”
Harrison said the Greenwood man was sentenced to six months in jail.

Former Governor General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson was in town this week, conducting interviews for a book she’s planning to publish next year. Entitled Room For All Of Us, the book will focus on a variety of immigrant populations coming out of places of struggle, how coming to Canada impacted them, and how they themselves changed the Canadian culture and landscape.

So, as you can guess, I am going to write about trails. Some of you may be familiar with this summer’s trail construction inside Grand Forks, and but most are not aware of the developments on the Trans Canada Trail, also known as the Spirit 2010 Trail across the region.
First, to the construction this summer, scheduled for completion in November 2010. I believe that the City of Grand Forks is on the cusp of a new era.

The Boundary region has come together over a common concern: the Kettle River. Over the last few years, residents of the Boundary have become more aware about the state of the Kettle River and its tributaries, especially with diminishing flows during the summer months and the quality of the water. The state of the watershed has in recent years also attracted the attention of those outside the basin, with the Outdoor Recreation Council of B.C. recently ranking the Kettle River the most endangered river in B.C.

“Remember me the way I was,” that is what the note said that the policeman found on Priscilla’s bathroom counter. My God…. after 10 years of living with excruciating pain, after 10 years of doctors and specialists who put her through every pharmaceutical they could think of she took her life! But this 60-year-old mother, sister, artist, dietician, hiker, world traveler could no longer live with the pain of her neuropathic disease, erythromelalgia.
Her doctor had finally put her on methadone and Priscilla was addicted.

The Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited and A.M. Ford will be partnering to help raise money in support of the Beaver Valley Nitehawks as part of Ford’s Drive One 4 UR Team program. Greater Trail community members will have the opportunity to participate and help raise up to $6,000 for the sports team by test driving a Ford vehicle. A.M. Ford will be working with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks to host the one-day event that will take place on September 25, 2010.

Leo Gerard, the international president of the United Steelworkers is coming to the Kootenays on October 2. He will be speaking at a fundraising dinner for the Kootenay West NDP at the Labour Centre in Trail.
“It’s a great honour for us to get such a distinguished labour leader to speak at our dinner in Trail,” said Katrine Conroy, the NDP MLA for Kootenay West.

The 65th annual Rock Creek Fall Fair saw thousands of visitors despite the grumpy weather over the weekend. From animal husbandry exhibitions to rodeo events, entertainment, fair rides, and vendors there was a full slate of activities over the two-day event.

Although the deer count done by the Grand Forks deer committee on Tuesday morning showed less deer population than last year’s fall count, the ratio of fawns to does indicates the herd is on the rise.
