School District 51 is getting three new buses to serve the Boundary next year. The provincial government has set aside $416,974 to fund the three news buses, which will seat at least 80 people.

The buses will replace three older models. Two have been in use for 15 years and the other one is 12-years-old. The government has a criteria of either more than 400,000 km or older than 15 years when replacing old buses. Okanagan Similkameen will also be getting a new bus.

“These four new school buses will save the school districts of Boundary and Okanagan Similkameen money that can be invested back into the classroom,” said Boundary-Similkameen MLA Linda Larson. “I am so pleased to see these two districts receiving new school buses that will keep students in our communities safe during their trip to and from school.”

The new buses will be ordered in 2014 and will be put into circulation in September of that year.

Funding for the buses is provided by the Ministry of Education and the Association of School Transportation Services of BC.
