Rebels take Bruins to task in back-to-back games

The Grand Forks Border Bruins have had their problems with the Castlegar Rebels this season. Major problems. Heading into this weekend’s home-and-home series against the ‘Gar, the Bruins had lost all three previous match-ups against the Rebels, being outscored 19-5 in 6-0, 7-2, and 6-3 losses. They didn’t buck the trend last weekend as the Bruins lost both games to their Kootenay Conference: Neil Murdoch Division rivals.

Grand Forks travelled to Castlegar on Friday to take on the Rebels. They were looking for a good team effort as they tried for an upset, but the Rebels took out the Bears 4-1, only allowing Grand Forks 4 shots in the second period of play and 3 shots in the third.

Jesse Laird scored the Border Bruins lone goal with assists going to Lucas Hildebrand and Josh Hoffman.

Castlegar returned the favour this past Saturday traveling over the Blueberry-Paulson trying to go 5-0 on the season against the Bears. That was exactly what happened as the Rebels destroyed the Bruins 7-1.

Randy Tosoff scored the Bears only goal of the game, being assisted by Jeremy Long and Laird, his second point in two games.

Following last weekend’s action the Bruins only have one upcoming game in the next ten days, Tuesday evening in Beaver Valley against another division rival, the Nitehawks.

The Bruins have no home games until Wednesday, Nov. 18, when they take on they take on the Nelson Leafs at 7:30pm at the Grand Forks Arena. The Bruins record now stands at 3-19-0-0 good enough for 6 points and last place in their division.
