The wee hours of Saturday morning saw police dealing with back-to-back public intoxication files, according to a press release issued today.

“On Oct. 19, at 3:23 a.m., the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP responded to a report of a fight on Rossland Avenue outside of the Rex Hotel in Trail,” said RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “Two (24-year-old and 27-year-old) intoxicated male suspects were located wrestling each other on the ground upon RCMP arrival at the scene.”

The shenanigans didn’t end with that altercation.

“Additionally, an intoxicated 29-year-old female suspect grabbed the wallet of one of the males that had dropped onto the ground during the melee and attempted to run away with it in front of police officers,” Wicentowich said. “The female; however, was too drunk to physically flee the scene and was stopped by police before she had made any progress. The two males and female were arrested by police and held in custody at the Trail Detachment until sober.”

He added the three suspects all knew each other previous to the incident and no criminal charges are being considered at this time.

Then, less than an hour after the previous call, police were dispatched to yet another intoxication call.

“On Oct.19, at 4:12 a.m., the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated 39-year-old male of Warfield, holding a garden hose with an unlit cigarette in his mouth standing in the yard of a residence on Rossland Avenue, in Trail,” Wicentowich said. “The male attempted to enter the residence after wandering around the backyard at one point in the incident. Upon attendance, the RCMP discovered the male was heavily intoxicated and mistakenly believed he was at his own residence. The male was arrested for public intoxication and held in custody at the Trail Detachment until sober.

“The male was released when sober and reported to the RCMP that he did not recall the events of the previous night.”
