Hockey fans you have to come to the rink!

 We have a team here folks! Congratulations to team President Dave Grootjes and the Bruins Executive. I have been waiting for this for four years. Even though we lost our first game, there is lots of talent on the ice and huge potential for this season.

Coach Deschenes has assembled a good group of players. I said to myself after the...

To the Editor;

In recent months I have passed through Grand Forks on two occasions. During my first visit I drove by what could be described as an "animal compound" adjacent to the Kettle River. I observed animals, particularly horses, kept in what I consider to be appalling and unacceptable conditions. In June some of these horses were standing up to their shins in...

Open Letter to West Kootenay Residents:

It seems like the people who make decisions far away in Ottawa don't quite understand BC nor do they understand the importance of physical geography in such a mountainous place.

They look at maps with demographics and populations and what they have is an impression of where we live, but not how we live or what our...

Editor, The Nelson Daily

On May 7, a debate in the chambers of Nelson City Council on a motion about legalizing cannabis was profoundly similar to others currently taking place across Canada and the world (Council Debates Legalization of Pot, June 12, 2012).

The Editor, The Nelson Daily:

Calls to end the infamous 'War on Drugs' don't just come from the funny dressed hairy crowd anymore.

Over the decades a number of Canadian senate committees have called for an end to it and the conservative Fraser Institute has condemned it since 2001.

Last June the United Nations Global Commission on Drugs Policy put it this...

To the Editor:

Thank goodness the Liberals made a good decision in refusing the application to pave a wonderful artery into nature.  We are not Cranbrook and this is not urban Grand Forks.

Locals, British Columbians and people from all over the world, but especially Europeans, travel to enjoy the amazing experience of walking and biking the rail trail.  They do...

Dear Editor:

After reading the letters and responses regarding the proposed paving of the Trans Canada Trail between Grand Forks and Christina Lake, I feel compelled to respond.

The Grand Forks Community Trails Society and the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary partnered in this project. While there have been a large number of letters in support of this development, there...

To the Editor;

Teachers in the Boundary are very upset and completely disillusioned with the Liberal government's attack on public education and basic union rights that have been fairly negotiated over the past few decades.

To make it clear, teachers would much rather be in classrooms with students and only escalated their job action to a full strike after...

To the Editor;

I am writing to voice my opposition and conerns with the application under the Ministry's Community Recreation program by the RDKB Area D Regional Director to pave the Trans Canada Trail between Grand Forks and Christina Lake.

My reasons are these:

1.  A good percentage of the trail lies within the City of Grand Forks.
