The celebrations for Arts and Culture week were kicked off early on Monday Apr. 12 with a gala performance featuring local talent. The event, sponsored by the Boundary District Arts Council and the B.C. Arts Council, highlighted a range of performing artists from youth to adults from around the Boundary.

From young musicians under the instruction of the Boundary Music Educators Association demonstrating their skills to theatre skits and the a cappella voices of the Second Street Singers, the show was crammed with delightful sights and sounds. Dancers took the stage as well bringing a taste of culture from Ireland, the Middle East, and even the tradition of cancan from the history of the Wild West. With over 50 performers on stage throughout the evening it was a wonderful array of arts.

The annual Arts and Culture week officially starts on Apr. 19 with a showing of regional artists from around the Boundary at the Grand Forks Art Gallery. Throughout the week there will be demonstrations at the Gallery as well as the opportunity to view the works submitted. Activities during the week include demos in dance, spinning and weaving, and drama. Admission to the Grand Forks Art Gallery is by donation. A reception for all artists and the public will be held on Saturday, Apr. 24 from 1-3 p.m.

To wrap up the season, the council is hosting the last of their performance series – HOJA on Thursday, Apr. 22 at 7:30 p.m, at Grand Forks Senior Secondary. This three-man comedy and a cappella group is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Come and help celebrate B.C. Arts and Culture Week.
