Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the BC Interior, with the region expected to experience unseasonably hot temperatures beginning Friday.
Environment Canada said from Friday through to Tuesday, daytime highs may rise to the mid-30’s C over the central and southern interior while northern regions will see temperatures reaching the mid 20’s C.
Environment Canada said the overnight lows are expected to be in the low to mid-teens.
“The BC Interior will experience unseasonably hot weather beginning Friday,” Environment Canada said.
“The highest temperatures are expected from Sunday through Tuesday.”
Environment Canada said that daytime highs will be 10 to 15 degrees Celsius above seasonable values while overnight lows will be 5 to 10 degrees above what is normal for this time of the year.
Environment Canada said that freezing levels will rise throughout this event to increase the snowpack melt with the possibility of localized flooding due to higher-than-normal stream flows.
Environment Canada said the public should be aware that these elevated temperatures could result in the risk of heat related illnesses.
Environment Canada said that while the developing heat conditions may see records broken, it must be emphasized that the expected hot conditions will not approached those experienced during the Heat Dome of June 2021.
