Police are pleased by the ease with which they made a drug arrest Friday, according to Trail top cop RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On April 12, at 3:10 a.m., a Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP General Duty police officer was conducting a routine patrol on Daniel Street in West Trail when he was flagged down by an intoxicated 37-year-old female,” he said.

“In her intoxicated state, the female mistook the marked patrol vehicle for the vehicle being driven by an alleged drug dealer. The police officer realized her error as a 54-year-old male suspect arrived on scene in his vehicle.

“An investigation commenced which resulted in the arrest of the 54-year-old male suspect. A search of the suspect and his vehicle lead to the seizure of approximately four grams of cocaine and crack cocaine, a cell phone, and $520 in Canadian currency.

“Charges against the 54-year-old male suspect will be forwarded to Crown Counsel.”

Wicentowich said the woman will not be facing charges.

“There’s a big difference between wanting to buy drugs and actually possessing them,” he said.
