High school students in the region are invited to experience Selkirk College for a day at an annual event that serves up educational pathways with a taste of campus life.

Grade 10, 11 and 12 students are invited to Selkirk College on May 17 for Experience Selkirk Day which will feature workshops that help them explore college programs and define potential careers.

“This event gives high school students an in-depth, hands-on opportunity to learn more about college programs, explore the educational options they have right here at home, meet instructors, and have some fun,” says Educational Recruitment Specialist Amy Byers.

Workshops are available in: Forest Technology, Geographic Information Systems, Recreation, Fish & Wildlife, Early Childhood Care & Education, Education Assistant & Classroom Support Worker, Social Service Worker, Nursing, International Education, Business Administration, Language Arts, Chemistry, History, Psychology, Biology, Rural Pre-Medicine, Peace Studies, Engineering, Writing Studies, Digital Arts, Blacksmithing/Metal Casting, Ceramics, Jewelry & Textiles, Music & Technology, Professional Cook, Ski Resort Operations, and Resort & Hotel Management.

In addition to program workshops, students will benefit from other knowledge on topics such as financial aid. Students will enjoy a delicious barbeque lunch, take part in college “student life” activities and be entered to win prizes.

High school students can choose to visit either the Castlegar Campus or Nelson’s Tenth Street or Victoria Street (Kootenay Studio Arts) campuses.

All programs will be represented except for Industry and Trades, including Hairstylist which will have their own high school student outreach at Made for Trades held in November 2017.

Students will be bussed from their school to Selkirk College. Register online for workshops until May 4 at www.selkirk.ca/experience-selkirk or contact Amy Byers at 250.505.1396 or AByers@selkirk.ca
