Bruins open main camp August 30th

As the Grand Forks Border Bruins prepare for main camp, beginning August 30th at the Jack Goddard Arena, the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League franchise can look back at the accomplishments from the past season with the announcement that a few players are moving onto Junior A and college level teams.

The Bruins announced that Nathan Cohen-Wallis is joining the Espanola Express in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League while Logan Hascarl has committed to Concordia University, former Bruins defenceman Byron Walker is joining Eastern Washington University and Evan Gorman will play for the Selkirk Saints this fall.

Cohen-Wallis, of Canmore, Alta, had 29 goals and 59 points in 78 career KIJHL games.The 20-year-old added five assists in eight career playoff games.

Hascarl, 21, collected 11 goals and 61 points in 231 career regular season games to go with 157 penalty minutes. In 26 playoff games, Hascarl had three goals and seven points.

Walker, 20, a Mena, Ark. native, had an assist in 19 games (eliteprospects.com.) 

Gorman, 21, the Grand Forks native had 29 goals and 87 points in 192 career games mostly with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks. Eleven of his 18 goals last season came on the power-play. In the playoffs, he had a goal and seven points in 41 games.

The Bruins camp runs from August 30th to September 1. Grand Forks opens the exhibition season Wednesday, September 4 at home against Castlegar Rebels.

The two teams open the regular season Friday, September 13th in the Sunflower  City.

The first home game of the regular season for Grand Forks is Saturday, September 14th against Beaver Valley Nitehawks. Game time is 7 p.m.
