The Grand Forks and District Fall Fair Society has outdone themselves this year.

The annual centurian fair, which has taken a downturn in attractions and popularity in recent years, seems to be coming back.

Not only were the number of visitors up — double from last year with several thousand — but so were the number of vendors, attractions and great free children’s activities

“It was amazing the amount of work that goes into (the fair),” said Grand Forks and District Fall Fair vice president Phyllis Mahoney. “I’m impressed with this year.”

The chuckwagon races were back for a second year and continue to be a favorite attraction.

“(The chuckwagons) are so well received by the majority of the people,” said Mahoney.

The entertainment was also even better with more bands, most of which were local.

“All the bands that played this year want to come back,” she said.

But the most impressive thing about the fair, whose association has only eight members, was all the community volunteers that make it happen.

“If it wasn’t for the volunteers from this community, we wouldn’t have a fall fair,” said Mahoney.
