Mail deadline for property tax is tomorrow
The CIty of Castlegar is warning residents that the mailing deadline to pay municipal taxes (property taxes) is tomorrow, June 23.
In a post on the city’s Facebook page, city officials explained that, while the actual deadline to submit payment is July 4, the possibility of a Canada Post strike or lockout has dramatically diminished the window for paying taxes via traditional mail.
“Any payments posted after this date (June 23) may not be received in time and will be subject to a 10-per-cent penalty,” the post read. “The post mark is NOT accepted as payment date.”
The missive did point out, though, that residents who miss the mail deadline will still be able to get their taxes in on time.
“After June 23, property tax payers can still pay through a variety of options, including in person, through their financial institution or by after-hours drop box at City Hall.”
