Trail kids net professional filming gig for Silver City Days

Five Trail teens got the experience of a lifetime while bringing a whole new realm of publicity for Silver City Days' 50th anniversary this year.

City communication and events coordinator Andrea Jolly said she was surprised by the initiative shown by Grade 11 J. L. Crowe student Eric Gonzalez, 17, when he approached her offering his videography skills to the city.

“I thought that was impressive initiative, and he was very poised and professional,” she said.

Food for thought: GDS-free shish kabobs like honey-mustard chicken

I'm so sorry I'm late getting this to you – believe it or not, I was trying to get a stuffed turkey in the oven early enough that we won't be eating at 8 or 9 p.m. Do I know how to celebrate Mother's Day, or WHAT?

The shish kabobs would've been my first choice for tonight, but they needed to be cooked and photographed early enough for you to make them your Sunday dinner, if the spirit moves you (or, if you're a mom like me, maybe it will move that angelic soul who's giving you a breather and doing the cooking for you).

Full Circle Art Collective evolved when a small group of artists, having worked in the same communal studio in Vancouver for many years, were finding themselves on physically separate paths, yet there was a desire to stay connected. Each artist from the collective brings a distinct, mature signature to their work, and by pooling talents, experience, strengths and connections, they have united to further their art practice. .

Food for thought: A little friendly ribbing

There's something about this amazing weather that turns every red-blooded Canadian's mind to ... that's right ... BARBECUE!

Ribs being the quintessential barbecue item, I spent many years longing for barbecue but unable to find gluten-free barbecue sauce we could eat. Oh, the horror.

Russell Morrison credits music with saving his life. For about 15 years, the Grand Forks resident was addicted to cocaine. That all changed when he was in a motorcycle accident.

“It was so painful, I couldn’t go score,” he said.

For some, the pain might be enough to get them hooked on other drugs, but Morrison found relief another way.

“Playing music is better than drugs. It fills your mind up so completely that you can’t feel any pain,” he said, of his 25-year passion.
