To go or not to go. When the snow is as good as it’s been in Rossland over the last couple of days calling it a day can be a difficult decision when you’ve got untracked slopes all around. On Monday night a local area father and his son from Whistler made the call for one last run and it ended up being a long one that prompted a Rossland Search and Rescue callout by concerned family members.

Pond hockey's back and looking worldwide

Pond hockey's back and looking worldwide

Hockey is a game with fun and friendly rivalries at its core. Strip away the million dollar contracts, 20,000 seat arenas, overpriced hotdogs and heck even the goalies and what you’re left with is pure and simple fun, the way it was originally intended. Bringing the Western Regional Qualifier of the Canadian Pond Hockey Championships back to Rossland again this weekend,  John Reed of Adventure Architects gets that.

It’s hard to always play the role of the comeback kids, just ask the Grand Forks Border Bruins.

Since the beginning of January the B’s have only held the lead in a game for a grand total of one minute and 32 seconds, which has made it very difficult to win hockey games.

And what makes it more difficult for the Bruins to comeback and win games are the leads that Bruins have spotted their five opponents this month.

Risk of avalanche has increased to high across the Boundary – Kootenay regions at every level of terrain and travellers are being warned to avoid avalanche territory. Instead the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) recommends that winter enthusiasts hit their local ski hill or stick to simple terrain like large meadows or dense forests.

This week new storm snow sits on a buried layer of surface hoar and loose dry snow.
