UPDATED: Police confirm Needles deaths were murder/suicide

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit and the Nakusp RCMP are continuing their investigation into the deaths of two Needles, BC men.

RCMP investigative efforts are continuing, into the Dec, 18, 2017 shooting deaths of the 83-year-old man and that of the 58-year-old man, which occurred at two neighbouring properties. Investigators have confirmed that the death of the 83-year-old man was a homicide. The death of the 58-year-old was determined to be non-criminal in nature.

No further information is being released.

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit and the Nakusp RCMP are investigating the deaths of two men who resided in the community Needles, B.C.

Needles is approximately 57 kilometers south of Nakusp and 135 km east of Vernon.

Nakusp RCMP responded Monday (December 18) at approximately 5:30 p.m.to reports of possible shots being fired at a residence on Needles North Road in Needles.

On attendance, Nakusp RCMP officers secured the scene and based on their observations awaited the arrival of the SED Emergency Response Team. Later that evening entry was made at two separate and neighbouring residences where officers located a deceased male at each property.

Upon further examination of the scenes, the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit were deployed and are currently investigating the deaths of the 83-year-old male and that of the 58-year-old male. Both men suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators are not looking for further suspects at this time. RCMP investigators have been in contact with the next of kin of both deceased.

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit and BC Coroners are continuing with their investigations into the men’s deaths.
