A cause of a two vehicle collision on Highway 33, eight kilometers North of Westbridge that closed the road and almost started a wildfire remains under investigation said RCMP.

Motorists including an off-duty RCMP officer were first on the scene of a fiery two vehicle collision that involved a a transport truck carrying kiln dried lumber.

The semi was struck by an encroaching car, sending the truck into the ditch where it caught fire.

RCMP, Midway Fire Rescue and BCAS attended the scene, where the 56-year-old female driver of the grey 2013 Honda Civic needed to be extricated from the vehicle by fire crews.

The woman was airlifted to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 60-year-old male driver of the transport truck suffered only minor injuries. Both drivers are from Kelowna.

The collision required the closing of Hwy 33 while emergency crews tended to the injured. Resources with BC Wildfire Protection Branch also attended to contend with the fire. Hwy 33 remained closed for several hours as result.
