Greetings to all Spotlight Films members, sponsors, and friends:

We are pleased to present the fascinating documentary, Finding Vivian Maier, this coming Tuesday.  It is the story of an amazing photographer who was unknown to the world until someone discovered her large photo collection years after her death.  There is a synopsis of the film at the bottom of the page and you can watch the trailer here.  We will start the evening off with the short film, PORTRAIT AS A RANDOM ACT OF VIOLENCE, by award-winning filmmaker Randall Okita. An allegorical and surprisingly beautiful film about an artist who is not who he initially seems to be. Mystery abounds in both films!

We have not confirmed our May film which kicks off our 12th season.  We will let you know as soon as we can.  Season passes (at last year's price of $50) will be on sale for the new season then.

We now have a Facebook page. Check us out (Spotlight Films) and "like" us so others in the community can see what great films we bring to GF!  Even if you are not a FaceBook member you can access the information groups offer on their sites.

REMEMBER:  if you are a Spotlight Films member and can't make a show, you can always lend your season's pass to a friend.

See you at the movies!

Finding Vivian Maier

In today's social media society taking photos that document almost every waking moment of our lives doesn't seem like anything special. Most of us are walking around with a camera/phone in our pocket making it easy to show people pics of flowers that just started blooming in our garden, the perfect pie crust we created for dessert last night, baby's tooth that just appeared and the beautifully plated sushi we had for lunch. Taking photographs wasn't such a simple and instant task 50 years ago.

Finding Vivian Maier is the critically acclaimed documentary about a mysterious nanny, who secretly took over 100,000 photographs that were hidden in storage lockers and, discovered decades later.  She is now among the 20th century’s greatest photographers. Directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel, Maier’s strange and riveting life and art are revealed through never before seen photographs, films, and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her. This superb documentary has won numerous awards, including an Oscar nomination for best documentary.
