SD51 to get a new bus and upgrade funding

School District 51 is getting $648,758 in provincial funding for school upgrade projects, classroom supplies and a new school bus under the new School Enhancement Program.
The district will extend the life of four schools with $510,000 in School Enhancement Program funding to upgrade lighting, rooftop air handling units and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems at Boundary Central Secondary, Dr. D.A. Perley Elementary, Grand Forks Senior Secondary and Christina Lake Elementary schools.
“This investment will benefit the students, teachers and staff of the Boundary School District. Thanks to this government’s fiscal prudence, we are able to invest in infrastructure improvements, a new bus and classroom equipment and supplies,” said Boundary-Similkameen MLA Linda Larson in a press release.
Under the new Student Learning Grant, the district will receive $64,338 to purchase classroom equipment and supplies such as textbooks, lab equipment and art supplies. The district will begin back-to-school planning with parents and teachers now to determine how best to use the one-time funding to reduce costs for parents and help teachers deliver B.C.’s new curriculum. This one-time grant is providing school districts with a total of $27.4 million.
Students in the district will also benefit from a new 24-33 passenger school bus which will cost $74,420 from the fund. This will be one of an estiamted 71 buses to be purchased this year.
