RCMP: Weekly beat - Thief makes off with mountain bike, rifle

A mountain bike, computer, rifle and some jewelery were taken from a private residence on 17 Street in Grand Forks over the weekend.

 

The break and enter was reported on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2:13 p.m. The culprit kicked down the door of the home to gain access.

 

The owner is out of town and police are awaiting a full report of what was stolen.

 

"We're appealing to the public to come forward with any information they may have," said Grand Forks RCMP Staff Sergeant Jim Harrison.

 

There was also a report of mischief on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 2:20 p.m. on Columbia Drive in Grand Forks. The person cut the chain in a chain link fence and gained entry to the fenced in area but took nothing.

 

"He was obviously looking for something but didn't find it," said Harrison.

 

Police have no suspects and no witnesses.

Grand Forks RCMP attended two single vehicle accidents involving ice on Highway 3 in and around Eholt Road last week.

 

On Friday, Dec. 9 at 5:52 p.m. a 2006 Ford pick-up truck lost traction on some ice at the summit of Highway 3 and Eholt Road and rolled twice down a 40-foot embankment, said Harrison.

 

The 50-year-old male driver and the 16-year-old male passenger, both from West Kelowna, sustained only minor injuries. The truck, however, was more extensively damaged.

 

The next day, on Dec. 10, at 1:14 p.m. a second single vehicle accident was reported in the same area along Highway 3 close to Eholt Road. A 23-year-old female driver from Kaleden, B.C. rolled her 1998 Pontiac over a different embankment. The vehicle only rolled once. There were no injuries.

 

"Her seatbelt prevented any injuries," said Harrison.

 

A third single vehicle accident occured on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 12:52 a.m. on Whitehall Road in Grand Forks. The 24 year-old male from Surrey, B.C. lost control of his 1994 Honda and took out a fence and broke a water line on a private property. There were no injuries and no explanation as to how the driver lost control, said Harrison.
