RCMP attend fatal accident near Grand Forks Tuesday

An accident near Grand Forks on Highway 3 has claimed the life of three people police said in a media release.

At approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, Grand Forks RCMP and RCMP West Kootenay Traffic Services attended to a head-on collision on Highway 3.

Police arrjved to a two vehicle head-on collision, 9 kilometers West of Grand Forks on Highway 3.

“Upon the initial scene examination, investigators have confirmed that a westbound 2012 red Hyundai Tucson with 3 occupants crossed the centre line and collided head-on into an eastbound 1996 green and white Ford pick-up truck with two occupants,” the release said.

Police said the 37 year-old female driver of the Hyundai and the 40 year-old male driver of the Ford truck along with a 37 year-old female passenger in the Hyundai were pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The two survivors were in critical condition and were airlifted from the area for treatment,” the release said.

“The occupants from the SUV were all from Castlegar and the occupants from the truck were from Genelle.”

The RCMP West Kootenay Traffic Services and BC Coroner Services are continuing their investigations into the crash.
