On June 19 at approximately 10:10 a.m., a 48-year-old resident of Grand Forks was operating a motorcycle with a passenger traveling north-bound on Highway 33. About 10 kilometres north of Beaverdell, the motorcycle he was operating collided with a deer. As a result of this collision the operator died from his injuries. The male passenger was transported to the Kelowna General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and later released. Neither alcohol nor speed were determined to be contributing factors in this incident.

Kelowna RCMP Cst. Steve Holmes said, “This tragedy underscores the need for the motoring public to always be vigilant on roadways with regards to animals crossing the road.”

Holmes said that the RCMP could not provide the name of the victim at this time.
