New location and summer programs for Christina Lake Stewardship Society

The interpretive displays and invaluable monitoring of local watersheds the Christina Lake Stewardship Society does is now being done from a new home in the Christina Living Arts Centre.

The public is invited to attend the grand opening of the new interpretive gallery and office space on Friday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check out the displays, learn how to help our watershed and meet the milfoil dive team at 11 a.m.

The event will be video recorded.

Summer youth programs underway every Thursday

Learn about animals, trees, fish while enjoying a nature walk or playing a game every Thursday between 10  a.m. and 11:30 a.m. from now until August 16 at the Christina Lake Stewardship Society.

Great for kids between 7 to 12. Parental attendance is required. Admission is by donation and classes are limited to 10 kids per session. A sign-up sheet is available at the welcome centre desk. Events sponsored by the Christina Lake Stewardship Society and the Christina Lake Arts and Artisans Society.

 July 19: Amazing Animals:

This seminar focuses on the local animals that could be spotted around Christina Lake. Kids will learn about food web interactions, animal adaptations and play some games in the nature park.

July 26: Orienteering:

Learn how to use a compass while conducting a scavenger hunt.

Aug 2: Fantastic Fish:

We will learn about the Kokanee life cycle, the parts of a fish (anatomy) and take a walk to a nearby Kokanee spawning creek.

Aug 9: Beautiful Birds:

We will start with a short session to learn some bird calls and other identification features. We will then go out in the Nature Park and try to observe some birds.

Aug 16: Ecosystem Explorer/Nature walk:

We will take a walk through the local nature park, and take a look at different trees and plants. Kids will be provided with a bug collecting container. The focus will be on discovering interesting things in nature, asking questions, and developing nature awareness skills.

Also available is Bear Aware every Saturday between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Stewardship Society. Great for both kids and adults.
