The Boundary Museum hosted a workshop on solar energy last weekend. The workshop came about thanks to the museum’s transition to off the grid energy. They were having solar panels installed and the company offered to do a workshop on solar energy.

Caleb Schmidt from Sunfind Solar Products, a company based out of Red Deer, Alberta, talked to a small group of people at the museum. He talked about the products offered, installation and options for the region.

Throughout the workshop, Schmidt answered questions and shared information that would be relevant to the local climate. One participant asked about living in shady areas in the winter, and Schmidt said that in locations that get little sun in the winter, it is necessary to have a back-up generator or alternative energy charge source for the system. He also talked about maintenance, which includes battery care and rinsing the system if it gets quite dusty.

After the workshop, guests went outside to view the system and then had a lunch at the museum.
