Investigators with the Boundary RCMP and West Kootenay Traffic Services attended a fatal collision on Highway 3 near Midway, on Tuesday morning.

Boundary RCMP and West Kootenay Traffic Services are investigating the cause of a fatal accident Tuesday morning on Highway 3 near Midway.

In a medial release, Boundary RCMP received a report of a head-on collision at 7 a.m. on Highway 3, one kilometer east of Midway.

“Upon attending the location, investigators determined that a 30-year-old man from Greenwood was Westbound in a Ford F150 pick-up truck on Highway 3 and crossed over the center line in a curve in the road,” the RCMP media release said.

“An oncoming unloaded Western Star logging truck was unable to avoid the collision resulting in a crash.”

RCMP said the logging truck was driven by a 53-year-old man also from Greenwood who was not seriously injured.

The accident closed the highway for approximately nine hours to complete the investigation and process the scene.

“The subsequent investigation determined that changing road conditions and speed relative to those conditions were likely contributing factors to the collision,” the RCMP release said.

RCMP investigators with the Boundary RCMP and West Kootenay Traffic Services in conjunction with the BC Coroner’s Service will be working together to determine the cause of the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Kootenay Traffic Services at 250-354-5180.
