For the month of December, 2018,  Tourism Rossland, The Josie, RED Mountain Resort, Stephanie Gauvin and Instinct Skis teamed up to create a contest that will send one lucky winner down the slopes in style: the Artfully Rossland contest.  The grand prize?  a pair of Stephanie Gauvin Artist Series Instinct Skis, 3 nights stay at North America’s newest boutique, slope-side hotel, The Josie, and two days of skiing at RED Mountain resort.

The contest garnered attention from a lot of snow-lovers — over 6300 people from various communities entered.

To see why the skis a so very special, watch this video by Eric Gonzalez.  It’s just under seven minutes long, and shows how and where the skis are made, and how they became so beautiful – as well as some lovely Rossland Range footage.

Throughout the film, Al Eagleton – the ski-maker — and Stephanie talk about their artistic collaboration to make beautifully designed, award winning skis, in Rossland. Inspired by the encouraging embrace of their community and often surreal surroundings, these two entrepreneurs have made something truly special.  To read more about Al and his skis, you can go to this article in Powder magazine.

Several businesses joined forces to celebrate the successful release of Eric’s new film and the collaborative entrepreneurial journey of artist Stephanie Gauvin and Al Eagleton of Instinct skis.

The message within this contest is much bigger than meets the eye. This campaign hoped to set an example of how businesses can and should work together to amplify the achievements of locals in their community. We hope to continue to keep this spirit alive with plenty of new creative ventures on the horizon.

Readers may see some baseball caps around town sporting Stephanie Gauvin artwork, too –  35 people won those in the contest.

That lucky person who won the skis, the stay at the Josie, and two days of skiing at RED?  A young woman from Kelowna, Stormy Johansen,  who has spent more time boarding than skiing until now — but with these skis, that could change.
