Castlegar and Ootischenia fire departments responded to a single-vehicle rollover Tuesday, according to Castlegar Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio.

He said the call came in at 3:50 p.m., and crews, along with RCMP and BCAS, attended Hwy 3 about five kilometres west of the city, near Merry Creek Forest Service Road.

“The vehicle had rolled several times down a 50- or 60-foot embankment, landing on its roof,” Lattanzio said. “He (the driver) was trapped inside, and we needed the Jaws of Life to extricate him, then rope rescue to bring him up the embankment.”

Luckily, the man suffered only minor injuries and was able to go home from the scene.

“The roads are treacherous, please drive for conditions,” Lattanzio said.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
